Stem Cell Therapy in India New Hope for Patients in Medical Science
Stem cells therapy is an
alternative yet advanced therapeutic module for various deadly, degenerative
disorders, like motor neuron diseases, multiple sclerosis, etc.
Human body is made up of
trillions of cells, which are working in continuous, yet synchronized manner to
perform various functions of different organ. Stem cells are naïve, young cells
of human body that can be extracted from as early as eight celled stage human
embryo. These cells are believed to be of highest potency with the capability
to differentiate into cells of various tissue origin. Studies have further
suggested that at each point of development, these stem cells store reserved
quota of them in various tissues, wherein they remain in dormancy for the rest
of their lives. The unlimited differentiation potential of these stem cells can
allow them to maintain significant number of tissue specific cells, that are
being lost in the normal wear and tear of the organ; thus, involved in
uninterrupted function of the organ. However, in case of diseased condition, it
should be noted that the death and/or degeneration of these tissue specific
cells is more than its production, due to which, progressive functional loss is
detected in variety of degenerative diseases, like multiple sclerosis.
Conventional treatments for
various disorder are observed not to be effective in curing various
degenerative disorders. They can offer rehabilitative approach, such as
physiotherapy as well as audio-speech therapy along with some steroidal shots.
However, it should be noted that long term exposure to steroidal medicine can
be very dangerous, causing deterioration of multiple primary organs. It is very
surprising to note that adult human body has various adult sources that store
some reserved quota of adult stem cells, which can easily be utilized for many
disorders.
Clinical studies have evaluated that
there are various disorders that can be treated with the help of stem cells,
such as osteoarthritis, neurodegenerative disorders, metabolic disorders,
etc. Majority of these disorders are
associated with structural loss of many tissue specific cells, leading to their
halted coordination with other organs of the body. As per the accumulated data
so far, more than almost 80 different disorders can be treated with the help of
stem cells.
Technological advances have
allowed easy isolation of these stem cells, outside human body to enrich the
cocktail of stem cells; the same is then infused back at the site of
injury. Once inside the body, these stem
cells are studied to have secreted variety of immune regulatory factors that
are responsible for creating a microenvironment. Stem
cells are known to have exhibited anti-inflammatory properties, which
can delay progressive damage of tissue specific cells. An extraordinary
potential of stem cells to differentiate into cells of desired lineage is being
exploited for functional restoration of an organ.
Although the field has excited
global scientists, who are continuously trying to develop stem cells as a
mainstream medicine, lot of these expected transformation are yet to be
launched. However, considering todays scenario stem cells therapy is definitely
more advantageous to conventional treatment module; in order to avoid pain
associated with surgery and cost of the treatment.
