New Avenue Of Stem Cells For Liver Cirrhosis Treatment

Cirrhosis occurs when regenerative nodules encircled with fibrous bands develops because of acute liver injury, and this leads to liver disease of the last stage. With recent developments in medical science Pathophysiology and history of cirrhosis is now better understood leading to improved management of the disease as well as improved life expectancy.

Until now, liver transplant was the only cure available for Liver Cirrhosis Treatment, but Stem Cell Therapy has opened up new borders for patients suffering from such fatal disease. In many conditions related to the liver, stem cells have proven beneficial and research also proves that in the time to come Stem Cell Therapy can emerge as a complete cure for liver diseases, like many other degenerative diseases.

Researchers are working on every possibility of using Stem Cell Therapy for Liver Cirrhosis Treatment and replace the option of liver transplant. For this they have studied different cell types including embryonic cells, mesenchymal cells, and even pluripotent cells.

The reason why many prefer embryonic cells for Liver Cirrhosis Treatment is because they can be extracted from varied sources like umbilical cord, bone marrow, etc. and these cells has the ability of going through different cell division cycles but can still maintain its undifferentiated state. However, ethical issues pose a restriction for this kind of Stem Cell Therapy.

Another promising advancement in Stem Cell Therapy is the discovery of induced pluripotent cells. With modern scientific techniques scientists can now produce these cells in huge numbers and can transplant them in the affected organ where they can help in regeneration of the organ.

These cells are normally extracted from human skin as well as blood and then these are converted to their original state before being injected into the liver. The advantage of these cells is that they are available in plenty and they multiply easily in lab conditions. Another benefit of these cells is that they can be customized according to the needs of a patient and so there is lesser risk of immune rejection, which is common in transplants for liver cirrhosis.

Researchers are also studying different techniques of using liver cells for treating patients. Several studies that use mesenchymal cells from bone marrow have been done, as these cells can differentiate in many other cell types.

Apart from these trials and tests, researchers are also testing methods that can work in the long term for Liver Cirrhosis Treatment. They are trying to formulate drugs, which can be introduced in a patient and then can be targeted in a way that it can repair the damaged tissues of the liver. However, many other trials are yet to be done on this kind of regenerative medicine for treatment of similar disorders.
