Future of Stem Cell Treatment And Expectations in India
Not only patients believe that
stem cells can change their life, but physicians in general also believe that
stem cell treatment is the future of science and medicine. The trials and tests
and their results shows a significant growth in the understanding of stem cell
science, origin, functionality of cells, etc. More the researchers gather
information about stem cells, more will be the chances of stem cell treatment replacing
traditional drugs in the time to come. Some, scientists and researchers
although indicates that stem cells does not match with the conventional
medicine business model, as these keep on replicating inside human body.
However, majority of healthcare providers are of the view that stem cell
therapy can emerge more elastic and powerful than people imagine.
Some believe that stemcells can
be used in future for developing tissues and medicines for specific patients,
in lab conditions. However, the question is how can one benefit from using stem
cells in therapeutic and clinical practice. Presently, the common method of
extracting stem cells is through taking blood from the patient’s bone marrow,
or taking fat through liposuction. These methods are invasive and are not
successful in deriving pluripotent cells. These are mostly used for extracting
mesenchymal cells, which are used for stem cell therapy to treat orthopedic and
cardiovascular conditions.
Fortunately, now there are
feasible means to acquire pluripotent cells, just through drawing of blood.
Studies have proved the presence of stemcells in blood, and other trials have
also shown that these cells can be used for regenerating heart tissues, lung,
brain, and even tissues of the pancreas. In recent years, clinical protocols
have been developed to control harvesting, reconstituting, concentrating, and
even administering of cells, which derived from patient’s autologous blood.
In recent times, there have many
successful cases of patients receiving stem cells and showing improvement in
their condition, but still the use and application of stem cell therapy for
clinical purpose is in its beginning phase only. Researchers are still working
hard to find out ways through which pluripotent cells can be more safely and
effectively used for practice. Once scientist find the most suitable source for
extracting stemcell and techniques to attract stem cells to the area where they
are required to facilitate differentiation, then stem cell therapy will reach
another level of success.
Some of the other fields
associated with stemcells and treatment using cells that are expected to grow
in future include tissue engineering, banking of stem cell that have unspoiled
DNA at the time of birth and then turning them into dosage for the future, and
clinical use of mesenchymal cells for treating many other diseases, which had
no effective treatment options in the past.
